BAFTAs battle tightens the Oscars race.

The 79th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) have both affirmed key frontrunners and injected fresh uncertainty into the 2026 Oscars race. One Battle After Another dominated the night with six wins, including Best Film, and now heads into the Academy Awards with undeniable momentum. Yet the ceremony also delivered several surprises that could ripple through Oscar voting. Timothée Chalamet missed out on Best Actor, while Wunmi Mosaku’s Supporting Actress win and Sean Penn’s Supporting Actor victory have turned the supporting races into some of the biggest unknowns of the season.
