Three huge family franchises are taking over cinemas this summer.

This summer, some of the world’s biggest family franchises are heading to the big screen, bringing with them generations of fandom, instantly recognisable characters and a powerful opportunity for brands to connect with families.

Cinema is one of the last places left where families truly connect. It creates a highly receptive shared environment where kidfluence becomes shared influence, with brand messages experienced together in the same moment.

For brands, the power of family IP extends well beyond the films themselves. By winning kids’ hearts early through relatable characters, fun content or memorable in-cinema experiences, brands can drive immediate family purchases while building familiarity and loyalty that can last into adulthood.

With three major family franchises arriving this summer, cinema gives brands a timely way to tap into established fandom, cultural momentum and the excitement surrounding some of the season’s biggest releases.

Ice Age: Boiling Point

Releasing February 4.

Ice Age: Boiling Point brings Manny and the herd back to cinemas for another big-screen adventure, this time taking audiences into a dinosaur-and-lava-filled journey through the Lost World.

First launched in 2002, Ice Age is the animated comedy franchise centred on an unlikely herd of prehistoric animals navigating a changing world together, with its mix of chaos, comedy and charm making it a long-running favourite across generations.

More than two decades later, Ice Age remains one of the world’s most established family IPs. The five theatrical films released to date have generated more than $3.2 billion USD at the global box office, giving parents the nostalgia of a franchise they grew up with while introducing its characters and playful spirit to a new generation of moviegoers.

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew

Releasing February 11.

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew will bring C. S. Lewis’ iconic world back to the big screen, with Greta Gerwig adapting the story of Narnia’s creation for a new generation.

First published in the 1950s, The Chronicles of Narnia is the beloved fantasy series set in a magical world of talking animals, mythical creatures and epic battles between good and evil, with stories that have been passed down through generations of readers.

Few family fantasy IPs carry the same level of cross-generational recognition. The Chronicles of Narnia books have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide, creating a global fanbase that spans generations. Now, that deeply familiar world is being reimagined for a new era of audiences.

CoComelon: The Movie

Releasing February 25.

For cinema’s youngest moviegoers, CoComelon: The Movie takes one of the world’s biggest preschool entertainment brands and turns it into a shared family cinema experience.

Originally built around animated nursery rhymes and songs for young children, CoComelon follows JJ, his family and friends through simple everyday stories designed to help preschoolers learn, sing and engage with the world around them.

The scale behind the brand is enormous. CoComelon generates more than 4 billion views every month across platforms including YouTube and Netflix, making it one of the most deeply embedded entertainment brands in the lives of young children and their families.

With JJ and his friends moving from the small screen to the big screen, the film gives young audiences the chance to experience familiar characters, music and storytelling in an entirely new environment.
